Environmental Targets

The Group integrates sustainable features into new developments and adopts best practices to enhance the environmental performance of its existing buildings. Striving to go beyond compliance, the Group is working toward its 10-year targets for 2029/30, measured against a 2019/20 baseline:

Target

1 SHKP set up an Energy Optimization Committee (EOC) in 2013 for the development and implementation of energy management strategy. EOC monitors the energy efficiency of major SHKP investment properties in Hong Kong.

2 We have already met our target: by the end of FY2029/30, the scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions intensity of EOC-monitored buildings will be reduced by 25% from FY2019/20. Therefore, we have set the new goal.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management

The Group is driving the transition to a low-carbon economy through its comprehensive Decarbonization Strategy. The Group fully supports the HKSAR Government’s Climate Action Plan 2050 and demonstrates its commitment through initiatives such as joining the Hong Kong Environment and Ecology Bureau’s Carbon Neutrality Partnership and the Business Environment Council’s Net-Zero Carbon Charter.

Since 2022, the Group has expanded its data collection to include Scope 3 emissions. SHKP continues to reduce upstream and downstream emissions by implementing low-carbon design, adopting green procurement, and collaborating with partners to identify decarbonization opportunities.

Energy Management

The Group prioritizes energy efficiency through a combination of physical upgrades and digital innovation. Key measures include retro-commissioning, chiller optimization, LED lighting conversion, and installation of smart sensors and meters. Additionally, the Group utilizes AI, IoT and BIM technologies to optimize building management. These efforts align with its participation in the Energy Saving Plan for Hong Kong’s Built Environment 2021-2025+.

Water Management

To improve water efficiency and mitigate water-related risks, the Group adheres to the ECH2O water management charter under the Enterprises Cherish Water Campaign and the Water Supplies Department’s Let’s Save 10L Water v2.0 Charter. Key measures include installation of high-efficiency fixtures, rainwater collection facilities, and IoT-based leak detection systems.

Waste Management

Aligned with the Waste Blueprint for Hong Kong 2035, the Group adopts a three-tiered approach of prevention, reduction and recovery. It integrates waste management principles throughout the project lifecycle, leveraging technologies such as BIM, DfMA, and precast units to reduce construction waste. In its managed properties, the Group promotes circular economy initiatives to reduce domestic, food, and packaging waste.

Biodiversity Management

The Group addresses its potential operational impact on biodiversity through a rigorous governance framework and conservation measures. External consultants conduct comprehensive risk assessments of SHKP’s Wetland Seasons Park, PARK YOHO, Sai Sha Development Project and other projects. The Group selects development locations with care and adheres to a systematic mitigation hierarchy:

  • Avoid potential harm to biodiversity;
  • Minimize ecological impacts;
  • Restore biodiversity and ecosystems; and
  • Offset any adverse impacts.
