Caring for the Underprivileged

The Group listens to society and responds to its needs through a range of initiatives, including providing land for Light Public Housing and Transitional Housing, and a site for a Community Living Room. The SHKP Volunteer Team provides care and support to underprivileged communities and grassroots families, fostering a harmonious and inclusive society.

Supporting Families in Housing Needs

To help alleviate housing shortage and improve living conditions for low income families, the Group supports the government’s housing policy in several ways. It provided land to the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council for United Court, an 1800-unit transitional housing project. The Group also lent a Yau Pok Road site in Yuen Long to the government free of charge for the development of more than 2,100 Light Public Housing units. Furthermore, the Group has donated a site to Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council for a cross-generation integrated social service facility serving the underprivileged.

Support for the Community Living Room Programme

The Group supports the government’s Pilot Programme on Community Living Rooms by providing a rent-free venue for the Ko Shan Road Community Living Room. This facility offers space, diverse amenities and services that parents and children living in subdivided flats can use for study, play and community support.

Volunteer Efforts to Support the Community

Believing in the power of community engagement, the Group actively promotes volunteering to unite people to support those in need. Since its establishment in 2003, the SHKP Volunteer Team has grown to over 3,200 staff members who collectively contribute approximately 75,000 hours of community service each year.

Through long-term partnerships with local social service organizations, the team provides essential support to the community, including festive visits and distribution of gift bags to those in need. The Group also offers emergency assistance to individuals and families facing severe financial hardship as a result of accidents or natural disasters.

In addition, SHKP volunteers apply their professional skills to conduct home inspections and carry out minor renovations for underprivileged families and elderly residents affected by redevelopment.
