ION Orchard again named Best Shopping Centre

Sun Hung Kai Properties' ION Orchard joint-venture development in Singapore was once again named Best Shopping Centre for its unique design and premium tenant mix, in a poll by Singapore media organization AsiaOne.

The AsiaOne People's Choice Awards invited Singapore readers of the group's publications to choose their Asian favourites in different categories. ION Orchard received the most votes in the shopping centre category and was named Best Shopping Centre for the second year in a row.

Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Executive Director Jimmy Wong said: "We are very pleased that ION Orchard was again named Best Shopping Centre. The mall is popular among both locals and tourists, and its diverse tenant mix and distinctive design bring a whole new shopping experience to Singapore."

ION Orchard is the retail component of the Orchard Turn project developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties and CapitaLand. It is easily accessible in the Orchard Road shopping district. The eight-level, 950,000-square-foot mall was designed by leading architecture firm Benoy and has 300 shops of top international retailers and gourmet restaurants.

It has high-tech media architecture wrapping the façade to deliver multi-sensory presentations and a sheltered public square for large events, gatherings and celebrations. ION Sky opened in January to offer a commanding 360-degree view of the city and ION Art is an event space dedicated to contemporary art and design.

ION Orchard won a 2010 Best Shopping Experience Award from the Singapore Tourism Board and came top of the business-to-business marketing category in the Asia Shopping Centre Awards from the International Council of Shopping Centres. It also took a grand prize at the Hong Kong Quality Building Awards and won a 2010 Asian Urban Landscape Award from UN-HABITAT Asia-Pacific.
